My Favorite Travel Tunes

When we travel, we use our senses a lot. Sight, of course, when we see a beautiful sunset or a stunning beach. Taste, when we eat an amazing meal or sip an exquisite drink. Touch and smell also. But earring is one of my favorite, because I like to listen to music, and when I hear a good song during a trip, the song will always be related to this trip, and memories will come back to me.

When I had my first real big trip, Australia, I heard a couple of songs that even today, takes me back to the Sunshine Coast or to Sydney. ‘Halleluyah’ is one of them… we sang this song by a bonfire when we were camping at Treatchery Camp. We also had an awesome road trip on the East Coast, and ‘Snow’ by the Red Hot Chili Peppers played on the radio; ‘Irreplaceable’ by Beyonce too. Those songs will always be special to me. They’re not just music… I can still feel the wind on my skin, the smell of the fire burning, the beautiful vista… I miss Australia!

I usually make myself a playlist of all the songs that highlighted my journey, so I can always picture myself in Thailand, or Morocco, or Jamaica…

I remember when I got back from Australia. I really didn’t want to come back home, even after a month abroad. I was devastated. I listened to ‘Sand in my Shoes’ by Dido over and over again, and it reassured me that I wasn’t the only one feeling that way.

Quand nous voyageons, nous utilisons beaucoup nos sens. La vue, bien sûr, quand nous voyons un beau coucher de soleil ou une plage magnifique. Le goûter, quand nous mangeons un merveilleux repas ou sirotons une boisson exquise. Le toucher et l’odorat aussi. Mais l’ouïe est l’un de mes sens préférés, parce que j’aime beaucoup écouter de la musique, et quand j’entends une bonne chanson pendant un voyage, cette chanson sera toujours liée à ces vacances, et plein de souvenirs me reviennent alors.

Lorsque j’ai vécu mon premier vrai grand voyage, en Australie, j’ai entendu plusieurs chansons que même aujourd’hui, me ramène à la Sunshine Coast ou à Sydney. ‘Halleluyah’ est l’une d’entre elles… nous avons chanté cette chanson devant un feu de camp quand nous campions à Treatchery Camp. Nous avons également fait beaucoup de route sur la côte Est, et «Snow» par les Red Hot Chili Peppers a jouée à la radio; “Irreplaceable” de Beyonce aussi. Ces chansons seront toujours spéciales pour moi. Ce n’est pas seulement de la musique… Je peux encore sentir le vent sur ma peau, l’odeur de la combustion du feu, les beaux paysages… Je m’ennuie de l’Australie!

Je me monte habituellement une liste de toutes les chansons qui ont marqué mes voyages, donc je peux toujours m’imaginer en Thaïlande, ou au Maroc, ou en Jamaïque…

Je me souviens quand je suis revenue à la maison après  mon voyage en Australie. Je n’avais vraiment pas envie de rentrer à la maison, même après un mois à l’étranger. Jétais découragée!! J’ai écouté ‘Sand in my Shoes “par Dido, encore et encore, et ça m’a rassuré que je n’étais pas la seule à me sentir de cette façon.
